Description:
ANTHUS is a non- profit organization from Puebla, Mexico that fights against sex trafficking focusing in two key areas: prevention and attention.

Experience, Background and Services:
ANTHUS raises awareness while recuperating and empowering female victims of violence in a secure shelter.
ANTHUS focuses in two key areas: prevention and attention. Prevention aims to end patterns of violence, limiting vulnerability through the development and distribution of preventative materials throughout Puebla. This area aims to make fundamental change through knowledge, informing on legislation, types of exploitation, risk factors, and common characteristics found in victims and traffickers while additionally publishing the stories of victims: giving the victims a voice and allowing them to educate and protect from abuse and exploitation.

The area of prevention aims to reach the most vulnerable, thus, ANTHUS not only distributes materials in Spanish, but also in the five most common indigenous languages in the state and surrounding areas (Mazateco, Totonaco, and three versions of Náhuatl) and into sign language. These translations have been turned into podcasts in order to include those who cannot read and those whose mother language does not have a written form. Additionally, ANTHUS plans to make video translations for further accessibility.
In the area of attention, ANTHUS operates the first and only sex-trafficking shelter in the state, Casa ANTHUS, helping women recover from trauma and achieve justice. The shelter works toward recuperation and empowerment, offering security, housing, food, psychological, psychiatric, medical, labor, sociological, anthropological, educational and legal services to female victims and their children.

Casa ANTHUS is also distinguished for being the first shelter to operate in a mixed manner, collaborating between a non-governmental organization and the state and federal government. Casa ANTHUS as a shelter acts as an innovative and replicable model that applies the best practices in terms of assistance and attention to victims of trafficking
