VSDR provides crisis response, intervention and prevention services to victims and survivors of crime immediately following a crime or sudden tragedy.
Experience, Background and Services:
Victim Services of Durham Region (VSDR) offer four main programs:
1. Victim Crisis Assistance Program -
VSDR's professional crisis intervention counsellors offer emotional support, resources and referrals, systems advocacy & safety planning. Our services are flexible, client-centred and tailored to individuals in order to promote victims/survivors' safety and stability.
2. Follow-up Support -
We provide emotional support and practical assistance in navigating bureaucracies to ensure clients receive the resources that are available to them. This includes help with legal support, criminal injuries compensation, subsidized housing, & income and employment support services.
3. Immediate financial assistance -
For emergency expenses through the Victim Quick Response Program (facilitated by Ontario's Ministry of the Attorney General) - Survivors of human trafficking can access additional funding for expenses such as counselling, accommodation, meals and personal care, safety expenses, tattoo removal & residential/addiction treatment.
4. Educational Prevention of Human Trafficking -
Full and half day workshops, programs for youth & service providers on the nature of human trafficking, its prevalence in the region, stages of trafficking and trafficking red flags.
