Description:
St Andrew's Refugee Services (StARS), based in Cairo, aims to enhance the quality of life for refugees in Egypt and make their rights a reality.

Experience, Background and Services:
St Andrew’s Refugee Services (StARS) was founded in 1979 by the congregation of St. Andrew’s United Church of Cairo. Acting in response to service gaps and the unaddressed needs of refugees, StARS implements a range of programs to address the challenges facing refugee communities while recognizing their skills and capacities. We seek to provide a safe and inclusive space for displaced people to come together as a community.

StARS’ vision is to create a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for refugees in which they can exercise their rights, pursue their aspirations, and live in dignity. StARS provides services across four core programs: Education, Psychosocial Services, Legal Services, and Community Outreach. Our clients and students are predominantly from Sudan, Syria, Eritrea, South Sudan, Yemen, Somalia and Ethiopia. StARS works out of five sites around Cairo and conducts work in community centers throughout the city and its many satellite cities.

Among the clients who approach StARS and benefit from services are victims of trafficking and smuggling. Staff provide special support for these particularly vulnerable clients.
