Canadian business perspectives on supply chain legislation

A survey by the Schulich Business School and World Vision Canada conducted in 2019 found that more than 75% of companies in Canada believed that legislation forcing action to address modern slavery would be beneficial. However, only 29% of the companies contacted as part of the survey were actively addressing their modern slavery risks beyond first tier suppliers, and 89% struggled to gain internal attention to the issue.

The study constituted a survey of 26 Canadian companies, and whilst the report recognises the limitations of the report in terms of it’s ability to generalise the 26 companies were drawn from a wide range of industries and sectors, and are of a variety of sizes.
