Ian Sweet

Ian served as the Director for the UK’s first Independent Anti-Slavery Commissioner, Kevin Hyland OBE. The Commissioner is appointed by Parliament to spearhead the UK’s response to Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking. Ian led the IASC team and worked closely with the Commissioner developing and delivering strategy which had a UK wide and international impact. Ian was also the Commissioners lead on Criminal Justice and Law Enforcement.

Ian served in the Metropolitan Police and was a Branch Commander in the National Crime Squad. As a Senior Investigating Officer, Ian led teams of detectives investigating serious and organised crime, nationally and internationally. Ian specialised in covert policing and anti-corruption investigations and engaged regularly with Europol & Interpol. He has worked alongside most European law enforcement agencies and in the US with the FBI.

Prior to joining the IASC Ian undertook scoping work in Nigeria as a Policing & Criminal Justice Expert looking into the prevalence of Human Trafficking from that country to Europe. He led a team of multi-skilled experts which fed into the UKs understanding & response to the issue.

Ian subsequently worked on projects for the UNODC on MSHT in Saudi Arabia and Oman and worked for the EU on a MSHT project in Moldova. Ian sits on the University of Manchester’s Perpetrators of Modern Slavery steering group and on the advisory panel of Tech Tackles Trafficking which is a collaboration of the Anti-Slavery Collective co-founded by HRH Princess Eugenie of York, The McCann Institute, CLC and Stop the Traffik.

Ian has also served on the board of directors for an international wealth management company with offices across Europe, Middle East and Asia Pacific Region. Ian holds a professional post graduate diploma in Corporate Governance, Risk and Compliance.
